More Muddin'

It has been raining a lot over the past 24 hours or more, and snow mixed with rain has hit as well.

I am quite excited about this.

Why, you may ask, would I be so excited for this "crap weather"? Well, because I get to go muddin',  of course!

As you can see from the image here, I already have done some recently on the perfect bicycle for it, a fat bike.  In this case, a Salsa Cycles Mukluk. I know, I know..... I've gone on and on and on about the Snow Dog before. You folks out there are probably quite fed up with it. (If not, I just posted a review of it here on Twenty Nine Inches)

The thing is, when you are having fun, you want to share it. I am only trying to tell you that you've no idea how much fun you are missing out on here. Really.

First of all, you really shouldn't go messing up trails when they are muddy that are sensitive. I wouldn't dream of doing that. But.....I have trails around that aren't sensitive to having a bicycle on them when they are wet. Plus- a fat-bike has less impact on trails by far than a traditionally shod off road bicycle. The fat bike tires "float" on top, rather than cut into the mud.

So, I am excited to ride when and where I ordinarily would not be able to today. However; I am finding out that I could sure use a Nate 3.8"er about right now!

Yeap, let the fun begin. There is nothing that bites like a 'Nate' I put one one for a winter pretest and don't want to take it off.

I can tell you that Floyd's and mud do not mix quite as well. :)

GT, I read your blog on a weekly basis. Curious as to which bars you're running on that Mukluk? I'm in the process of converting a monster cross bike from drops to a riser/flat type bar. Wondering which bars you find the most comfortable for fire trail, some singletrack on a 29er rigid setup?

thanks

@RodC: Thanks for reading the blog! The bars are Carnegie's Bars from Ragley Bikes. Salsa's Bend Bars (23*) are nearly identical to these, by the way, only mine are carbon.

Love these on the Muk. They come highly recommended by me for your purposes. (As do the Salsa Bend bars)
