Looks Like We're In It For The Long Haul

Last March I had a lot of plans. I bet you did too. Well, I don't need to tell you all what happened there. Things in our lives have been radically changed and what we expected, in many cases, has been postponed or cancelled. I think about how my son, just as an example, has had his whole senior year of high school upended. It is but a small example of many of our lives.

And "they say" it isn't going to go away anytime soon. So...... What exactly does THAT mean? Well, you'll have to answer that for yourselves. I can only vouch for myself at this time. This is all my opinion and just is where my head and my heart is at right now.

First of all, I'm not going to be making any big plans. Chances are pretty high that the current situation, or some slightly modified version of it, will still be in effect for a major portion of 2021. Rides, going places, hanging out with big crowds of folks, all of that is off my table for the foreseeable future. I'm not going anywhere soon, and I am settling in for the long haul here. In my opinion, it isn't worth the risk to myself and others here where I live for me to go gallivanting around the countryside at gravel events, or for any other reasons.Things may change, maybe..... I'll admit I'm wrong gladly. But I am not holding out a lot of hope that I am wrong on this......

"I can't wait for 2020 be done" seems to be a common mantra I hear often, like the virus just expires in January and everything goes back to rainbows and puppy dogs. AZT broke records in 87 as the fastest drug approval most people can remember and that took 20 months. I believe the standard time frame from conception to hitting pharmacies on most things is about 12 YEARS! Of course I'm sure a vaccine will get fast tracked in this case but we could still be years from that and if it's only as affective as the flu vaccine we will still have plenty to worry about even after that. It's going to be difficult for people to decide what they are comfortable with and what risks are acceptable in the next few months/years.

@Rydn8ers - Great points. And I agree that vaccines are not "get out of jail free" drugs. As you alluded to, we are still going to need to social distance, protect the most vulnerable, and practice a different lifestyle that will provide safety and some form of freedom in a well considered mix.

In other words, we ain't a gunna be doin it like we uzed ta do it. There will never be a return to "normal days". That ended mid-March. The Future will be a bit different deal for sure, and I agree with you on that.
