Steep in that the road bikes prevalent today usually have 73°-74° head tube angles. Short in that many road racing style bikes will feature 420mm chain stays or shorter sometimes.

The Vaya has a slacker head tube angle, longer chain stays, and with its relatively low bottom bracket, it isn't what most "road only" bicycles most folks think about have for geometry.

Hope that helps explain the comment.Guitar Tedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10960580677548417562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-1746310627828154442014-08-27T14:07:18.388-05:002014-08-27T14:07:18.388-05:00Hmmm...not sure if you are still checking this pos...Hmmm...not sure if you are still checking this post but I am considering this bike and I'm wondering if you could elaborate on your statement that "the geometry is odd for purely road going." Reynolds 951, Columbus XcR, or KVA MS2?

I posted a comment asking this in Salsa's blog, and they deleted the comment. Apparently they are keen to keep it a secret, which I think is rediculous in this day and age.Scenes in Singapore lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06600005193364926538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-67627154907242556632012-07-26T09:24:21.550-05:002012-07-26T09:24:21.550-05:00@GNAT - Thank you for the info about the Alternato...@GNAT - Thank you for the info about the Alternator rack. This is great news, and puts the design of the Vaya Travel rear dropout in an entirely new light. Add in the flexibility to fit the rack to the El Mariachi and Mukluk, and I think you've hit another home run!

Please excuse my earlier skepticism.Exhausted_Aukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16724847867511724067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-10433943429344654942012-07-25T14:08:00.360-05:002012-07-25T14:08:00.360-05:00Regarding a touring bike and racks, please note th...Regarding a touring bike and racks, please note that we have also designed an Alternator rack that we will release at a later date that works ideally with this, the El Mariachi with Alternators as well as Mukluks. They will be available before the Vaya Travel comes into stock so racks should not be an issue for this bike.GNAThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11030083238539453615noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-80038620638280001362012-07-25T13:12:39.779-05:002012-07-25T13:12:39.779-05:00Does anyone know if the regular Vaya will get the ...Does anyone know if the regular Vaya will get the alternator dropouts?Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12098200869987051166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-51459955846765992322012-07-25T12:11:20.856-05:002012-07-25T12:11:20.856-05:00Nice bike... This is supposed to be a touring bike, Salsa! IMO it would have been better to go with a PF30 BB shell to allow an eccentric BB to take care of these options.Exhausted_Aukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16724847867511724067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-10325424510382749082012-07-25T07:39:23.120-05:002012-07-25T07:39:23.120-05:00You had me at "stainless".
