Took me several days to dig through all the sources to find ANY 700c/rim brake/32h hoops to build up. Never thought there would be a day when that combo was almost obsolete!?!?! And spokes, my stash at home had been whittled down over the years and finding the lengths I needed turned out to be less than easy as well. Good thing I have 99% of the parts needed to build this thing up sitting here. The only item that scares me is a square taper BB. I need to do some measuring for the "antique" Specialized flag logo touring crank I plan on using. But hey, the hunt is part of the fun! They did not say, (the lube company, which you quoted in your original comment here that I said," They don't really say what to do with a new chain...") to strip the chain, so I FOLLOWED THEIR RECOMMENDATION. I would not have normally done that, but if "Joe Customer" reads their site, they would not have done any chain cleaning with a new chain either, and if I had I would have "skewed the results. Centrifugal force is a wonderful thing to quote a person as they cleaned a chain. You skewed your test from the start. If you are going to run a head to head test, one must reduce all the variables. That sentence got me thinking. It seems to me that the German companies (Canyon, Bombtrack, Focus) seem to take pride in their young hip design teams. That's not a bad thing in it's self but the average age seems to be right around 30. They simply didn't live through that 30+ years of great design like some of us older....er, I mean more seasoned riders.Phillip Cowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01863320784437992503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-51223187990143135472021-05-14T07:26:53.537-05:002021-05-14T07:26:53.537-05:00@N.Y. Also if you read the kool-aids website, it is also pushing other stuff out of the chain. To be honest it does take a few wipe downs and rides before you start seeing the benefits. By the way, the stuff I am pulling out of this chain is dry-ish and gritty. NOT just shipping oils. Thus- "not what you want to see..."

This is why I was VERY skeptical about the prep , or lack thereof, for a new chain. I'd think, based on my recent experience here as an example, that you'd want to start with a perfectly clean chain to avoid premature wear from grit attracted to "previous oils and lubricants'. But don't mind me, just look at what I pulled off the chain with a simple swipe of my finger.

So far....NOT very impressive! Guitar Tedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10960580677548417562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12831567.post-15676301279053942412021-05-14T05:57:38.006-05:002021-05-14T05:57:38.006-05:00I would suppose the good portion of the black stuf...I would suppose the good portion of the black stuff you are pulling off the SCC Slick Wipperman test chain is the shipping an rust preventive agents you left on the chain. In your own words
"They don't really say what to do with a new chain, so I did not strip the chain down with cleaners, as I would typically do. I thought I saw where SCC claims you don't have to do anything there, but when I went to verify that I could not find that claim. Anyway, this stuff, if claims are to be believed, should handle whatever Wippermann ships chains with easily because it isn't much. A Wippermann chain seems to have a LOT less shipping oils/grease than say, a Shimano chain, and feels a lot cleaner than any SRAM chain I've handled out of the box.= - Guitar Ted Blog Post
I run SCC Slick and I drink this snake oil kool-aid. From experience it takes a few post ride wipe downs to remove the previous oils and lubricants. I find that after a few rides, and tend to lube the chain every 300 miles or so based upon conditions. After few cycles of this maybe three or four, I find I can go longer between lubings.

As for the Canyon release I saw a mean of cyclist crying they did not offer a 3 tier drop bar in this iteration. Sorry, it made laugh when I saw it. But I will say, if people do not try new things, we will not progress and advance technology.
-NY RollNY Rollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09894292869281781075noreply@blogger.com
