The Spotted Horse

Stolen from the Facebook page!
There are not very many "ultra" distance gravel competitions out there. You got yer Trans Iowa, Dirty Kanza, Gravel Worlds, and Odin's Revenge. Then there is the Gold Rush Gravel Grinder, which has a longer distance option too, at 210 miles, which they have been doing a few years now. Sure- there have been a few other one-offs, but as far as annually held events, these are the big dogs of gravel grinding, as far as I know. All those events are 150+ miles long.

Now I've heard of another new one. This time it is a Fall event that is being planned, and it will be in Iowa. South Central Iowa, to be exact, where it is really beautiful and really hilly. The event is to be called the "Spotted Horse" and it will have two distances at 150 or 200 miles. Not much else has been announced publicly for details, but this should be a good deal.

Put it on yer radar if you are into longer gravel rides in beautiful country. I know I am.

  1. 2016 will be the second year of the Woodticker 200. It's a grassroots, 200 mile, self- sufficient gravel event to be completed in 24 hours, in the hills and lakes of west-central Minnesota. It begins and ends in Hawley, MN. It will occur in June, but the exact date has yet to be determined. Tagline for the Woodticker 200: "Can you pull it off?"
