The "Dirty Blue Box" sitting in a blanket of heavy, wet April snow. |
It also was the last go-round for the old "Dirty Blue Box", my beat up, old 1990 Civic Wagon. It was a two wheel drive automatic, hatchback, and had a very basic interior. However; that very basic, tiny little econobox punched way above its weight in capabilities. I was really surprised at all the things I got away with in that rig.
Anyway, the Trans Iowa anxiety that I was talking about in last Thursday's post? Well, I wrote about this even back then. Check out the following quote from April 3rd, 2009:
"Everything comes to a point now. Sponsors shipping goodies, cue sheets getting printed, stuff getting double and triple checked. Late nights, too much thinking, and anxiety. (Yes, I get wound up a bit over this.)"
This particular Trans Iowa was stressful due to the fact that we weren't yet sure where, or how, our pre-race meet-up was going to go. We had no solid leads on a place to hold that meeting, and at the time of this post ten years ago, we had decided to have the meeting just before the event.
Fortunately it didn't turn out that way, but it was touch and go.
