Happy Thanksgiving

 Happy Thanksgiving!

All the best from myself, Guitar Ted, to you and yours if you are celebrating on this day of thanks.

I am thankful for my life.

I am thankful I can ride a bicycle.

I am thankful for my family.

I am thankful for my friends.

And I am thankful for so much more. I hope today you take a minute to think about what you are thankful for. I hope you take some time to say "I love you" to those who are important to you. You don't have to be celebrating a "thanksgiving" holiday to do any of these things.

Finally, thank you for reading Guitar Ted Productions!

Now get out there and ride your bicycle!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you celebrate the day, I hope that you have a wonderful time remembering all the things you have been blessed by in 2024. If you do not celebrate the day where you live, I hope you take some time out today to be thankful for all the things you have been blessed by this year as well.

On another note, today is the day that the Virtual Turkey Burn Challenge starts. It ends on Sunday, so if you are partaking in this endeavor, I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable ride, or rides.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving from Guitar Ted Productions!

Today is that day that we here in the USA stop to give thanks, gather together, and feast. If you are reading this from another country, there is nothing at all that says that you cannot stop to give thanks as well. You don't need a national holiday for that!

So, wherever you are in this World, I hope that today you can find a quiet moment to reflect on those things that you are thankful for. I know one thing you could be thankful for, and that is your eyesight, because you are reading this!

As for myself, I want to say that I am very thankful and eternally surprised that you, (Yes- YOU), have stopped by to read this blog everyday, or at least on occasion. You know, when I started this blog I had no expectations. I seriously thought that no one would read it, or even care what I had to write here.

Boy! Was I ever wrong about THAT!

So, I appreciate you all here very much! I hope to keep up the work here at a high level for several years yet, so stay tuned for more here at G-Ted Productions. Until next time, have a safe and happy day, whether it is an official "Thanksgiving Day" or not.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Taken straight off the porch on Monday, November 22nd, 2021.
 Happy Thanksgiving!

 from Guitar Ted Productions.

I'm taking the day off to rest and have some time with my family.

I hope today finds you in a state of gratitude, with those that you love, and doing things you love to do with those people.

However; if you are not able to enjoy one or all of those things, I hope that you find peace today and a reason to believe that you matter. I'm willing to bet that if these words are reaching your eyes, you matter to someone, probably even to me.

Thank you for reading Guitar Ted Productions.

Peace!

Thoughts On Giving Thanks

Today isn't like many late November Thursdays for many people in the United States. Typically there would be big gatherings, lots of food, and maybe a bike ride, or probably a football game on the T.V. We'd not give a second thought to our 'traditions' and we'd simply go through the motions. But maybe not this year, right?

You know, I typically don't veer far off the cycling path here on the blog, but today calls out for something a little different, don't you agree? Well, I do, and this is my blog, so......

I have been giving a lot of thought to how 2020 has really radicalized our entire culture. Both in good and bad ways, things have been shaken up, mixed around, taken away, and added to. However you look at it, you would have to agree, there has never been a time quite like this for any of the current generations on Earth. I have been giving thought to the various ways all this has affected my world.

I have noted a few things, and foremost of all is that most of my contacts with humans close to me in family, business, and in the cycling world, such as it is, have all been much richer, deeper, and heartfelt than I can recall at any time previously. People genuinely seem to care about my health, my safety, and well......me. I noticed that I seem to be that way in regard to others as well. To be sure, not everyone is like this, but to say that there has been a noticeable uptick in caring and concern? Yes, I believe that is correct. We also all seem to be yearning for decency, compassion, kindness, and you know......just to see some character in others. Maybe I'm the only one, but even if I am the only one seeing this, I know it is real.

There was a time similar to this, when I felt the lines were blurred between people and we felt like we were all on a similar, if not the same, page. That was the period during the months following September 11th, 2001. It was a really special time when Americans seemed to be focused in the same, general direction, and things seemed a lot less divisive. This time things are deeper than that, and there is a great divide which is perceptible, but the 'good stuff' I see is stronger now than it ever was.

Yet, one has to wonder that as we see some sort of hope that we will be coming through this dark valley that is COVID-19 someday, that we also won't see a similar fading away of 'the good stuff' as we did in 2003 and years later when any semblance of unity became a rare commodity amongst the American people.

But for now, I am giving thanks for those of you who have reached out to me, to those of you who are doing things in a more intentionally compassionate way, even if it is a small thing. It matters.

My hope for all of you is that you see what I have seen, that you grab hold of that vision, and that you cultivate it despite any future 'return to normal', because a lot of what was our past "normal" isn't anything to be valued.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Today is the day when we in the USA try to get together with family and loved ones to celebrate and remember to be thankful.

Actually, in my opinion, everyday should be thanksgiving day. I am pretty blessed to have a family, a wife, a house, a job, and bicycles to mess around with. I've been overwhelmed with good things, and if I don't stop to remember that, and give thanks, well, then I am headed for big trouble.

Anyway, I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I would encourage you, wherever you are, to count your blessings today and everyday. It will make a change in your life, and I bet it will be for the better.

Appetite Seminar- Fat Bike Style

The ultimate low impact machine
Back in 1975 a bunch of folks grabbed their 1 speed bikes and rode Thanksgiving Day to amp up their appetite for dinner that day. Or something along those lines. You can read the history of that ride here.

So, I decided I would have my own, solo, "Appetite Seminar" ride on Thanksgiving Day this year. I decided to run the Blackborow DS and go the length of the Green Belt and back. That should work up a good appetite for what Mrs. Guitar Ted was cooking up. We don't run on a "regular schedule" around here, so my ride began just before noon.

I was blessed to ride under Sunny skies with little to no wind. It was, for a Thanksgiving Day, perfect. Typically we have pretty gloomy weather around this time of year with more clouds than Sun. But yesterday was an exception and it was also a bit warmer than usual as well. The Green Belt was primo. Dry-ish with a bit of wetness due to frost coming up. So, no excuses. I rode the entire length of the Green Belt plus some of the "spurs" to the main trails.

On the way over I switched from "high" range to "low" on the Dinglespeed transmission. I figured that for most of what I would be riding that low range would be unnecessary, but for the few parts of the trail that it was, I wouldn't have to get off and walk.

I rode a few sand bars where I could. This is actually Black Hawk Creeks river bed.
The paved bike trail goes over the trail here. This was an old rail road line's bridge.
The area is pretty dry again. This isn't good long term for us, but it does provide for some unique riding opportunities. Sand bars, parts of the Black Hawk Creek river bed, and the lake/pond shore line over by Highway 63 all become rideable areas. It is perfect for a fat bike as most of this is fine, packed in sand. Fat bikes were made for such a surface.

The turn around at Shaulis Road.
The pond off Marky-Mark shows a little icing over.
The ride went well, I cleaned all the obstacles due to the use of the "low" range, and I made it home in time for the big feast. The "Appetite Seminar" was a success. I made a big appetite for myself. Mrs. Guitar Ted made a great meal, and the family was satisfied.

Hopefully all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well.
